Article Marketing
"Article marketing" is a phrase used to describe publishing your own written articles on separate websites, including blogs and electronic magazines. There is most often no compensation, except that beneath your article, in a "resource box," brief information about yourself and links to your own website may be included.
Article marketing has some great benefits. As your articles get published and passed around the web, your name gets associated with the subject of your article, and you establish yourself as an expert. These articles are also tools for generating leads and increasing your site traffic. More traffic can mean greatly improving your search engine ranking. Many websites offer software to get your article out there, or will even do the syndicating for you.
Some websites will accept your article for free, then charge you a small amount (generally under $10) for redistribution to about 100 other distribution lists. Those distribution lists will further disseminate your article to other sites. This widespread distribution can rapidly increase your visibility within a search engine, and is an extremely cost-effective method for improving your search ranking.
However, article marketing is not just for internet marketers. Different sites have a variety of topics on which they accept articles, and they are always looking for new topics to spice up their website. So whichever is your area of expertise, there will always be someone out there who wants to learn more, and webmasters who are ready to accept free content.
Also important to article marketing is search engine optimization or SEO. A publisher needs to have a thorough understanding of how search algorithms work and be familiar with commonly used search terms. This will help the publisher determine which websites would be the best to place a particular article, helping to ensure the site visitors are actually looking for the information the article has to offer.
Remembering SEO does not necessarily point to publishing more searchable information, though. A webmaster might sometimes incorporate SEO into the structure, presentation, and coding of a site during its development phase, so that it may be more appropriately indexed by search engines. Unique content might also be considered for inclusion, as it is readily indexed by search engines, and simultaneously appeals to visitors.
Writing an article and getting it published on a website is an easy way to establish oneself as an expert. The best articles stay focused. They are easy-to-understand and help the visitors in some way or other. An article should not be used for plugging your product or service, at least not obviously. Otherwise many websites may not put it up. In short, the most successful article is one that satisfies some need of the visitor.
